Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Current released goalkeeper Carly Nelson and forward Michele Vasconcelos on Friday. Both players were original members of the Kansas City roster that opened NWSL play in April 2021 and have been on loan since last fall.
"We want to thank Carly and Michele for their contributions to the team and wish them all the best moving forward," said general manager Camille Levin Ashton.
Nelson was signed by Kansas City on December 23, 2020. Prior to that, she was a part of the OL Reign (2019-2020) and the Utah Royals (2020) rosters. Collegiately, Nelson starred at the University of Utah, where she kept 10 clean sheets as a senior and was named to the All-Pac 12 Third Team.
The Lindon, Utah native made her NWSL debut with Kansas City on July 23. Nelson earned her first clean sheet in the match as Kansas City fought to a scoreless draw with the North Carolina Courage.
One of the 22 original members of the team, Vasconcelos played in all four 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup matches for Kansas City and scored the first home goal in KC NWSL history at Children's Mercy Park on April 26, 2021. Vasconcelos made 10 appearances for Kansas City in the regular season, tallying 446 minutes.
The Current are in Houston to play the Dash tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT on KMCI, 38 The Spot. The team will return home to play OL Reign on July 17 at 6 p.m. CT. Tickets for the match are available at KansasCityCurrent.com.
