Checkers To Help Families Of Shooting Victims

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers announced today that a portion of the proceeds from the season opener on Oct. 19 will go to help the families of the shooting victims at Moe's Southwest Grill in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On Oct. 4, police say employees of Moe's, Vinny Ferens, 36, and Jeff Maher, 34, were shot and killed by a former restaurant employee. Now, the Checkers are doing their part to help the families of the victims by donating a portion of proceeds from opening night ticket sales to the Moe's Victims Memorial Fund which include the wife and three children of Ferens.

The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL on Oct. 19 against the Columbia Inferno. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
