Roster Takes Shape As Jackals Trim Two More

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that left wing Dan Veenema and defenseman Andrew Morris have been released by the club. The Jackals now have 23 active players (two goalies, 13 forwards, eight defensemen) in their training camp and one goaltender, Joel Martin, still with Binghamton (AHL).
Veenema, 21, made the Jackals regular season roster last year after coming out of the First Pro Placement Camp held by the club. His hard work and determined play made him a fan favorite and in the process, Veenema scored six goals and totaled 18 points in 55 contests.
Morris, 26, is a familiar name to college hockey fans in the area as he was a four-year letter winner at Elmira College. The former Soaring Eagles defender turned pro last fall when he signed with Jacksonville of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In 46 regular season games with the Barracudas, Morris posted 7+22=29 totals with 68 PIM. He added a pair of assists in eight playoff contests.
Elmira opens its first ECHL preseason with three games this week at First Arena: Thursday, October 11th, against Reading (7:05 p.m.), Friday, October 12th, and Saturday, October 13th, versus Trenton at 7:35 p.m. both nights. Season ticket holders are reminded that their season tickets will be available for pick-up Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m. at First Arena. Ticket pick-up will be on the concourse level. Fans are then invited to the at the team's Meet & Greet in the First Arena Restaurant on the second level.
