October 28, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, NC - Tuesday, October 28, 2003) - The Checkers American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, has assigned three players to Charlotte. Center Benoit Dusablon, defenseman Patrick Aufiero and forward Lucas Lawson will be in Charlotte in time for Wednesday night's home game with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The moves are announced today by Checkers Head Coach and General Manager, Don MacAdam. Dusablon and Aufiero have spent time with the Checkers in the past, while Lawson, a rookie, will get his first taste of the Queen City.
"We're very happy to have three quality players assigned to us today, especially with a very tough schedule of four games in five nights this week," remarked MacAdam.
Dusablon spent the early part of the 2001-02 season with the Checkers, scoring 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in only 19 games. He has spent the majority of the past two seasons with the Wolf Pack, with 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 88 games.
Aufiero played eight games with the Checkers early last season, scoring two goals and four assists for six points. The second-year pro played 32 games with the Wolf Pack last season with one goal and six assists for seven points. Aufiero, a Boston University graduate, has played five games with Hartford this season prior to his assignment to the Checkers.
Lawson is in his rookie campaign after an outstanding college career with the Black Bears at the University of Maine. Lawson was signed by the Rangers as a free agent on April 4, 2003. Lucas concluded a solid senior season at the University of Maine by being selected to the Hockey East Second All-Conference Team after leading the Black Bears with 21 goals. A brief two-game playoff stint with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) gave the 6-1, 205-pounder a taste of life in the pros. Lawson skated in 145 career matches with Maine from 1999-00 to 2002-03, registering 50 goals and 43 assists for 93 points, along with 83 penalty minutes.
