
Checkers Receive Ryan Murphy on Conditioning Stint

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that they have assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to Charlotte on a conditioning stint. Also, the Checkers have made a swap with the ECHL's Florida Everblades, recalling forward Levko Koper and reassigning defenseman Josh Wesley.
Murphy, 23, returns to the Checkers after recording one assist in four NHL games with Carolina this season. Carolina's first-round draft choice in 2011, the Aurora, Ontario, native has 65 points (10g, 55a) in 82 career AHL games with Charlotte. An AHL All Star in 2015, Murphy set a team record with a 12-game assist/point streak during the 2013-14 season and set personal records at the AHL level with seven goals and 24 assists in 32 games played last season.
Koper, a 26-year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta, begins his first career stint at the AHL level. A product of the University of Alberta, where he scored 139 points (51g, 88a) in 140 games, Koper (6'0", 193 lbs.) has eight points (5g, 3a) with the Everblades to start his first full season at the professional level. Koper, who scored 226 points in 330 career junior hockey games with the Spokane Cheifs, winning a Memorial Cup in 2008 under current Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters, also posted three assists in a five-game trial with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones late last season. The Atlanta Thrashers chose Koper with their seventh-round choice in 2009.
Wesley, a 20-year-old rookie, returns to the Everblades after making his AHL season debut during his most recent stint with the Checkers - a scoreless outing at Milwaukee on Nov. 15. The native of Raleigh, NC, has three points (1g, 2a) in four games with the Everblades this season.
The Checkers, who are 4-0-0 at Bojangles' Coliseum this season, begin a four-game home stand against the Chicago Wolves this Tuesday, They also host a Wednesday rematch with the Wolves before playing a back-to-back set with the Iowa Wild on Saturday and Sunday.
