November 21, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Four-time UFC World Champion Chris Weidman will be attending the Syracuse Crunch game on Saturday, Dec. 10 when the team hosts the Utica Comets at 7 p.m.

Weidman, known to fans as "The All-American" for draping himself in the American flag before and after his fights, has thirteen wins under his belt, including four middleweight championships. He won his first championship in UFC 162 when he took out then champion Anderson Silva with a second-round knockout. The pair rematched at UFC 168, where Weidman defended his title with a consecutive victory over Silva with a TKO. The win improved Weidman's record to 11-0, and he remained unbeaten with two more commanding victories over Brazilian superstars: Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision and Vitor Belfort, who was knocked out in the first round at UFC 187.

Of his first 13 professional victories, nine have come via knockout or submission, and Weidman has finished six opponents in the first round. His takedown skills are among the best in the UFC, but his punching power was displayed prominently against Silva, who brought in a 17-fight win streak at the time they met.

Weidman is a Baldwin, New York native who attended Baldwin Senior High School on Long Island where he was a Nassau County and New York state wrestling champion. He was an All-American in Cadet Freestyle and Greco Roman. A standout in college, he earned All-American wrestling honors twice at Nassau Community College before transferring to Hofstra. He became the first junior college wrestler in history to be a NYS Collegiate Champion. At Hofstra, he was a two-time Division I All-American, placing 3rd at the NCAA tournament his senior year. Weidman graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

As part of his appearance at the Crunch, Weidman will drop the puck on Dec. 10. He will also be available for autographs in Memorial Hall during the first intermission.
