CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers have been busy on the ice so far this season but, in December, the team will be just as busy off the ice. Players, coaches and front office staff will make their presence felt in the Charlotte community during the entire month.
Dec. 4: Checkers mascot, Chubby will visit Alexander Youth Network for their annual tree lighting event.
Dec. 5: Checkers head coach and general manager, Derek Wilkinson, will appear at Beef O' Brady's in Baxter Village in Fort Mill, SC. for Coach's Corner. Fans are invited to ask coach Wilkinson questions in an open microphone format.
Dec. 7: After the game against the Johnstown Chiefs at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena, the Checkers entire team will be at the main concourse for a post-game AT&T Real Yellow Pages autograph session. As a reminder, fans that bring in old Yellow Pages for recycling will receive a free ticket to an upcoming Checkers home game.
Dec. 9: Checkers players will make an appearance at Holiday on Ice located at the Green Uptown from 2- 4 p.m.
Dec. 10: The Hooters on South Blvd will host the Checkers and Hooters Happy Hour starting at 7 p.m.
Dec. 12: The Checkmates, Chubby and the Zamboni will be at Trade and Tryon in Uptown Charlotte to promote Toys for Tots at 11:30 a.m. Players will be on-hand for Keith Larson's Second Annual Women of the Professional Radio Broadcast versus Charlotte Checkers hockey game at the Green Uptown.
Dec. 16: The Charlotte Checkers front office staff and players will be at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C. for the Skate with the Checkers Christmas Party from 12-2 p.m.
The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Dec. 7 against the Johnstown Chiefs. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
