Charlottetown Go for Vengeance in Second Half of Back-To-Back
January 18, 2020 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
Coming off what head coach Jim Hulton described as his team's worst performance of the season, the Charlottetown Islanders look for a measure of revenge against the Cape Breton Eagles tonight at the Eastlink Centre in the second half of this weekend's back-to-back series.
The Islanders (23-17-5-0) have faltered as of late, losing four of their last five games. After last night's defeat, they now sit alone in fifth in the Eastern Conference standings after they were defeated by the team that they were tied with, the Eagles.
Cape Breton (25-14-2-1) meanwhile have been firing on all cylinders as of late, winners of eight of their last ten games. They've been receiving contributions from every part of their lineup, particularly from some of their newest players; Shaun Element has been on fire since joining the Eagles following the holiday break. The 19-year-old veteran scored twice in last night's victory, giving him seven goals and ten points in nine games as an Eagle.
Former Islander Shaun Boudrias recorded three points last night, giving him an even 200 points in his career. Boudrias has spent five seasons in the QMJHL with Cape Breton, Gatineau, and Charlottetown after the Islanders originally selected the big forward in the first round, 13th overall, at the 2015 QMJHL Draft.
The good news for Charlottetown is that Lukas Cormier is expected to return to the lineup tonight. He and Cape Breton Eagles forward Ryan Francis were on the same return flight from the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, but due to the weather in Charlottetown their plane could not land. Both were expected to arrive early this morning and join their respective teams for tonight's game.
The bad news, however, is that Justin Gill joins the infirmary bay. The forward took a hard high-stick from Eagles forward Connor Trenholm yesterday and did not return to the game. He joins Drew Johnston, Cedric Desruisseaux, and Keiran Gallant on the sidelines.
Tickets are still available for tonight's action! Don't forget it's Cyber Saturday - use promo code CORMIER51 at the link HERE to save 51% off your ticket! You can also get your tickets at the Eastlink Centre box office or by calling 902-625-6625!
