CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Independence today in conjunction with FC Cincinnati announced the creation of the Queen City Cup Challenge. The QCCC will serve as a friendly competition between the USL clubs and their cities' respective Mayors, Jen Roberts of Charlotte and John Cranley of Cincinnati.

Terms of the QCCC involve the Mayor of the losing team having to serve lunch at a local homeless shelter wearing a jersey of the winning team.

The QCCC will include only the home-and-away series between the Independence and FC Cincinnati. Scoring will be based off a standard 3-1-0 points system - 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the series, aggregate scoring will come into play with the team having scored the most goals winning the series. If both teams are tied on points and goals scored, the team with the most road goals will claim the Cup.

The trophy, unveiled today at a press conference in Cincinnati, was created by Pete Witte of Baron Identification Products. Silver-plated and Italian-made, the cup stands at 21-and-a-half inches tall and the name of the winning club each year will be added to its base.

The first leg of the QCCC will take place on Saturday, April 9, when the Independence travel to Cincinnati. The series will conclude in Charlotte on Saturday, May 21. Both games are schedule for 7:00pm kick offs.

The Independence will open the 2016 season at home against Louisville City FC this Saturday, March 26. Kickoff is schedule for 7:00pm ET at Ramblewood Soccer Complex. Tickets are available at www.charlotteindependence.com/tickets or by calling 704-206-1515.
