Sacramento Republic FC News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC have signed a contract with free agent midfielder JJ Koval for the 2016 USL season. Koval played most recently with Republic FC's MLS affiliate, the San Jose Earthquakes. He was loaned to Republic FC in both the 2014 and 2015 USL seasons.

"I am delighted that JJ has decided to join us," said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. "He's somebody I've really enjoyed working with and I think he played a huge role towards getting us a win against Tulsa last summer. I think he's going to compliment the guys we have in the middle and is everything I'm looking for in a central midfielder."

Koval appeared in one match with Republic FC on loan from San Jose during the 2015 USL Season. He started and played 90 minutes in Republic FC's 3-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Aug. 29, 2015. Koval appeared in two USL matches for Republic FC during the 2014 season, starting one.

The midfielder was the number nine overall pick by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in 39 matches in two seasons with the Quakes, starting 16. Koval was the tenth player in Quakes's history to make 20 or more appearances in his rookie season.

Sacramento Republic FC kick off their 2016 USL season on Friday, March 25 when they travel to Tukwila, Wash. to take on Seattle Sounders FC 2. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the Starfire Sports Complex. Local watch parties will be hosted at de Vere's Irish Pub and Hot Italian Pizza & Panini Bar in downtown Sacramento as well as streamed online at SacRepubliFC.com/matchday.
