Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Charlie Kronschnabel ["KRAHN schnah bel"]. Last season, after the conclusion of his collegiate career at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, Kronschnabel (6'4"/209 lbs) joined the Royals on March 16, 2007, and promptly picked up his first point as a pro on that same night when he assisted on Reading's third goal in a 4-3 win over the Dayton Bombers. Kronschnabel, who played seven games with Reading last year, also scored his first pro goal in his third game with the team, a 4-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers on March 18. After the conclusion of the Royals' season, Kronschnabel, who turned 24 last February 8, also earned a late season call-up to the Portland Pirates of the AHL, where he picked up an assist in four games.
After two seasons of junior hockey in the United States Hockey League, Kronschnabel, who hails from Mendota Heights, Minnesota, was recruited to UAA, where he scored twenty-four goals and assisted on forty others (sixty four points) in 126 college games, placing him in the All-Time Top Fifty in those three statistical categories for the Seawolves. Perhaps the highlight of Kronschnabel's college career came during his senior season when he served as team captain. Despite suffering a broken leg on December 1, 2006, and missing fifteen regular season games, Kronschnabel returned to lead the team into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs, where the Seawolves made a valiant effort to pull off an epic upset against the highly favored University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. In Game Two of that best-of-three series, Kronschnabel assisted on the overtime game winner to complete a comeback victory at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis-the Golden Gophers' home ice-and send the series to a deciding Game Three, which was won by Minnesota. For his efforts during his senior season, Kronschnabel, who was a three-time selection to the WCHA All-Academic Team, was voted by his teammates as the team's Most Inspirational Player.
The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
