Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that forward Brad Zancanaro has signed a contract for the 2007-08 season, becoming the seventh player sign by the Everblades for the upcoming season.
Zancanaro re-signs with the Everblades after finishing sixth on the team in scoring with 53 points (18g, 33a) in 65 regular season games last season. The 25-year-old also pitched in two goals and six assists in 16 Kelly Cup playoff games. The Trenton, Michigan native began his first full professional last year by skating in seven games with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, before being added to the Everblades roster on November 1.
"Brad was a sparkplug for us last season." Fleming said. "His speed and grit was a real asset to our team and we expect more of the same from him this year. Brad proved he's one of the best penalty killers in the league through his hard work, and to have someone with his skills also be a key component on your penalty killing unit is huge."
Zancanaro finished tied for first on the Everblades with four short-handed goals in 2006-07, helping the club to an all-time team high 21 short-handed tallies last season. A former Boston University product, Zancanaro made his professional debut in 2005-06 by playing in eight games with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL, where he picked up two goals.
Prior to turning pro, Zancanaro spent four seasons at BU and notched 90 points (34g, 56a) in 161 career games with the Terriers. During his senior season with the Terriers he finished second in scoring with 36 points and tied for third in goals with 14, while also being named the team's Defensive Player of the Year.
