Charleston to play Vancouver Saturday night at Blackbaud

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30PM with kick off set for 7:30PM ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com). This is the first of two games between the two clubs this season; the Battery travels to Vancouver for the return fixture on August 25.

The Battery lost its last league match 2-0 last Saturday night versus the Carolina Railhawks in a game played in Cary, NC. Charleston responded Tuesday evening with a 1-0 Second Round US Open Cup win over the PDL El Paso Patriots

Vancouver enters Saturday's match coming off a 0-0 draw at Puerto Rico last Sunday, and a 1-0 win at Miami two days earlier. Striker Eddie Sebrango had the Whitecaps only goal in the win over Miami.

Vancouver will should have the services available of midfielder Martin Nash, who played in all four of Canada's recent Gold Cup matches. Nash is the brother of two-time NBA most valuable player, Steve Nash.

The Whitecaps are the current USL First Division champions; Vancouver defeated the Rochester Raging Rhinos in last years final in a game played in Rochester, NY; the Whitecaps are the first team to win the championship away from home.

Aloha Night - Tickets

It's the Battery's annual Aloha Night celebration at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday and the first 500 fans will receive a free lei. At half-time there will be a limbo competition and one lucky fan will be crowned 2007 Charleston Limbo Champion. Tickets are available for $8 - $15, call 971-GOAL or visit www.charlestonbattery.com.

Battery to face MLS champs in US Open Cup

Charleston, SC. The USL First Division Charleston Battery will face current Major League Soccer champions, the Houston Dynamo in the third round of the US Open Cup. The game will be played at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island on Tuesday, July 10; gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM ($10 - $18, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com).

The Battery advanced to the third round with a 1-0 win versus the El Paso Patriots on June 26; defender Anthony Catalano scored the game-winner.
