Carolina RailHawks Host Vancouver Whitecaps
June 29, 2007 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
The Carolina RailHawks will start Independence Day festivities one day early by hosting the current USL-1 champions, the Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday July 3rd at 8:00 PM at SAS Soccer Park in Cary. The RailHawks already defeated the Whitecaps in Vancouver back in May, snapping a sixteen game undefeated streak that started last season, with a beautiful goal scored by Connally Edozien.
"In Vancouver we did what had to be done," said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer. "It was our second game on the road, of a three game west coast trip, and we played intelligently. Tuesday night we will be able to attack more and play our brand of soccer. It will be an exciting match between two teams at the top of their form and a perfect way to kick off RailHawks Soccer Month."
The theme of the evening is Independence Day and will feature the usual pre-game festivities with kids being able to take part in the human pre-game tunnel before the match. The first 2,500 fans will receive a red, white and blue glow in the dark necklace offered by Time Warner Cable to encourage everybody to wear their patriotic colors. At half time the RailHawks will be presented with a proclamation from the Town of Cary officially kicking off RailHawks Soccer Month.
After the match children will be allowed on the field to watch the spectacular fireworks display presented by Time Warner Cable and the Carolina RailHawks. Fans of all ages are encouraged not to miss the opportunity to watch fireworks for two nights in a row.
The Carolina RailHawks embark on a two game road trip to Rochester and Montreal on July 5th and will be back at SAS Soccer Park on July 13th for another important match against the Montreal Impact. Only two days later on July 15th the RailHawks will continue their quest for the US Open Cup as they host Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire at SAS Soccer Park at 7:30 PM
The Carolina RailHawks are a United Soccer Leagues expansion team that entered the USL First Division in April 2007. The squad will play 14 regular season home games and four additional home playoff and exhibition games each year, with all home games played at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Under Rochester Rhinos co-owner and USL Hall of Fame inductee Chris Economides, the RailHawks organization was formed in October 2005 and awarded the USL franchise in January 2006.
