CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Charge (4-17) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, defeated the Wisconsin Herd (8-15), 129-119, at the Wolstein Center on Friday night.
The Herd got off to a red-hot start in the first, building a lead of as many as 13 while hitting 64% of their shots to go ahead 40-27. The Charge responded in the second with a 40-point quarter of their own, led by Malik Newman's 14 points in the quarter, to pull back within a single possession at the half, 70-67.
Cleveland scored on their first two possessions of the third for their first lead of the game as the teams went back-and-forth to start the period. Tied 78-78 with 6:39 left in the third, the Charge finished on a 23-11 run to pull ahead 101-89. The hosts maintained their lead for the entire fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Newman finished with a game-high 34 points along with seven rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes. Cam Young scored 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 8-of-8 from the foul line in 38 minutes. Justin James came off the bench to score 26 points on 9-of-16 with eight rebounds in 34 minutes. Tacko Fall added 14 points, eight boards and four blocks in 26 minutes.
Frank Mason III led Wisconsin with 24 points and seven assists in 32 minutes off the bench. Tiwian Kendley & Terry Larrier each scored 19 points. Javin DeLaurier had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds in 29 minutes. The Herd got 76 points from their reserves in tonight's game.
