Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (2-5), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated by the Iowa Energy (5-2), 116-93, at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night. The Central Division foes will meet again over the next two games, first at Iowa this Wednesday and then back in Canton next Friday night.
The Energy led nearly wire-to-wire and by as many as 34 throughout the game, paced by an impressive offensive display. After trading buckets to start, the Energy went on a 14-2 run to swing the momentum in their favor early. Canton scored 16 of their 18 first quarter points in the paint, but the perimeter shooting struggles allowed Iowa to pull ahead 26-18 thanks to hitting 56% of their shots in the quarter.
With the Energy leading 40-31 and 6:07 left in the half, the visitors closed out on a 20-8 run to put the game out of reach at 60-39. Iowa got in the paint for 22 points in the second quarter and again had the hot hand based off the high percentage opportunities with a 14-for-25 team effort overall shooting (56%). The lead furthered in part by Charge turnovers, with six miscues for 11 points in the second quarter.
The Energy never led by less than 18 the rest of the way and finished their offensive display 39-of-73 (53%). All five of their starters scored in double figures, led by 32 points and six rebounds from James Ennis on assignment from the Memphis Grizzlies. Joel Wright netted 22 points with seven boards in 37 minutes. Andrew Harrison added 21 points, six boards, and two steals in 38 minutes.
Quinn Cook scored 16 points with two steals in 29 minutes for Canton. In his second game on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 15 points, including 9-of-11 from the free-throw line, in 32 minutes. Michael Stockton added 14 points, four boards, and four assists in 32 minutes.
The two teams will meet again in Des Moines on Wednesday, December 9th at 8:00 p.m. Iowa and Canton will then complete the three-game set for the Charge's next home game on Friday, December 11th at 7:00 p.m. It's All For Ohio Night presented by The Salvation Army, with the team wearing special jerseys to be auctioned off in game for charity!
