Bighorns' Comeback Falls Short in Austin

AUSTIN, TX ---- Despite the Bighorns rallying back after trailing the Austin Spurs by 17, Reno was not able to complete the comeback falling 137-132 Saturday night at the Cedar Park Center in Austin, Texas.

Vince Hunter, who logged his fifth double-double of the season, went 14-20 from the field, netting 31 points and adding 10 rebounds for the Bighorns in the Saturday night contest. Erick Green notched 22 points, four rebounds and four assists while Ricky Ledo had 17 points, five rebounds and two assists in the game.

Hunter led the Bighorns in the first quarter notching eight points and two rebounds. Chad Toppert went 100 percent from the three-point range and 100 percent from the field, totaling six points in the first quarter. Duje Dukan had five points in the quarter as Green had four.

Ledo, who went 6-8 from the field, netted 15 points in the second quarter as Toppert had six points. The Bighorns shot 66.7 percent from the three-point range compared to the Spurs 57.1 percent.

The Bighorns went into the locker room at the half trailing the Spurs 70-59.

The Bighorns heated up during the third quarter, outscoring the Spurs 38-31. Cliff Hammonds led the Bighorns in the quarter with 10 points and adding one assist. Green tallied eight points, two rebounds and three assists as Mark Tyndale totaled seven points in the quarter.

The Bighorns came back from a 17 points deficit to take a 118-112 lead over the Spurs in the final quarter before the Spurs regained the edge over the Bighorns. Hunter netted 14 points and grabbed two rebounds in the quarter. Green totaled 10 points as Dukan had six points and two rebounds.

The Bighorns outscored the Spurs 73-67 in the second half.

The Bighorns return to the Reno Events Center Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Fans who make a nonperishable food donation at the door will receive free admission to the night's contest.
