Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The bats came alive for the Ottawa Champions as they beat the Rockland Boulders 11-6 on Thursday evening at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, New York.
A big, six-run top of the fifth gave the Champions a stranglehold on the game. Six straight batters came across to score with one out in the inning. DH Sebastien Boucher knocked in two runs and 3B Jordan Caillouet then cleared the bags with a grand slam, giving the Champions a 9-3 lead.
Ottawa would be on cruise control from that point, earning runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Champion's starter RHP Edilson Alvarez was putting together a good outing, but got tagged in the bottom of the sixth. Alvarez gave up a three-run home run to CF Mike Montville and was pulled while being on the hook for all six runs.
RHP Miles Sheehan came in and ended the inning, while RHP Danny Carela and LHP Scott Maine each threw an inning in relief.
The top of the order did some serious damage for the Champions. The top three batters - CF Chase Harris, SS Daniel Bick and Boucher - went a combined 9-for-14. Harris and Bick scored three runs apiece.
The Champions continue their three-game set with the Boulders tomorrow, Friday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. Ottawa returns to RCGT Park to face the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Friday, August 24.
Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
