Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions ended their five-game losing streak by beating the Quebec Capitales 4-1 in the second half of their doubleheader on Wednesday at RCGT Park. RHP Austin Chrismon turned in a masterful performance, scattering three hits over six innings in a condensed seven inning game.
"We swung the bats well today, I'm very pleased with that," said Champions manager Hal Lanier following the win. "Chrismon pitched a super ballgame and we got some big hits with men in scoring position. That's a big game for us."
It looked like Chrismon would be in tough after the second inning, when he gave up a run off a double by 2B Maxx Tissembaum. But the seasoned hurler was able to settle down, surrendering only two more hits, while LHP Scott Maine notched his fourth save of the season.
"It was huge for me, but it was bigger for the team," said Chrismon, who picked up his second win of the year. "We've struggled this year with big innings. So just to get out there and give our offence a chance to get in."
The Champions took the lead in the sixth inning. Quebec's RHP Mark Vasquez loaded the bases, and Ottawa sent three runners to the plate. 3B Jordan Caillouet singled, LF Coco Johnson hit a sacrifice fly, while 2B Tyler Nordgren and OF Steve Brown combined for a perfectly executed squeeze play.
In the first half of the double header, Ottawa fell 7-4. The Champions hitters couldn't overcome a three-run sixth inning. OF Sebastien Boucher, who played all 14 innings of the evening in the field, went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The Champions will finish off their series with Quebec on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Join us for the first DOLLAR HOT DOG NIGHT of the season. The remainder of the series can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv, or over the air on CKDJ 107.9.
