Ottawa Champions News Release
Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Champions have added more Major League experience to the starting rotation, agreeing to terms with RHP Wilmer Font.
The 24-year-old Venezuelan appeared in a total of five games for the Texas Rangers in 2012 and 2013, compiling a 5.40 ERA with one strikeout in 3.1 innings.
Font was originally signed by Texas as an amateur free agent in 2007 and spent a total of seven seasons in the organization.
Last year he made 29 appearances for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, where he went 2-1 with a 3.48 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 31 innings.
"Font has a power arm and he can transition seamlessly from the rotation to the bullpen," says Champions Director of Player Procurement Nick Belmonte. "He gives us versatility with Major League experience."
Font joins former San Diego Padres lefty Andrew Werner and right-hander Drew Granier in an experienced rotation, with more signings possible between now and Spring Training.
Spring Training runs from May 10th to 20th, and Opening Day is slated for May 22nd at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park against the Sussex County Miners.
Season tickets are on sale for $475, flex packs are available for as low as $89.00, and single game tickets will be available in the coming days.
