Champions Drop Twin Bill Versus Quebec

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions got two quality starting pitching performances, but came up on the losing end of 3-2 and 1-0 games against the Quebec Capitales on Thursday evening.

RHP Steve Borkowski and RHP Jordan Kurokawa both went the distance in the two seven-inning contests, but emerged as hard-luck losers.

Borkowski looked solid, but the Capitales ultimately got the better of him in the seventh inning. The score was tied 2-2 when DH Lachlan Fontaine broke Ottawa hearts by hitting a sacrifice fly that scored a runner from third and won the game for Quebec.

The only blemish on Kurokawa was a first-inning run. The Hawaiian struck-out four and didn't walk a single batter. Kurokawa was simply outduelled by Quebec's RHP Ryan Searle, who also went the distance giving up only three hits.

The Champions bats largely fell silent on the evening. OF Tillman Pugh recorded his first hit in an Ottawa uniform in the first game. 3B Jordan Caillouet provided the team's only offence when he singled home SS Daniel Bick and C Mike Blanke in game one.

The teams were playing a doubleheader after Wednesday night's game was cancelled because of a power outage at Stade Canac. This is the fourth doubleheader the Champions have played this season - they own a 3-5 record in those games.

Ottawa will now travel south of the boarder for a three-game set with the Sussex County Miners, before returning to RCGT Park to face the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, June 19.
