Ogden Raptors News Release

HELENA, MT - After falling in consecutive games, the Ogden Raptors were ready to get back to their winning ways Sunday in Helena.

A combination of solid pitching, good defense and timely hitting did the trick, as the Raptors knocked off the host Brewers in game two of the four-game series, 4-1.

After suffering a shutout on Saturday, the Raptors came out swinging in the first. Drew Avans singled to right with one out, and Dillon Paulson drove him in with a line drive double to right-center. With two away, Ronny Brito hit a ball that bounced over the third base bag and off the third baseman's glove, allowing Paulson to come around and score.

Brito pulled another ball to the hot corner in the third inning, reaching on an error when it bounced over the glove and into left field. He then advanced to second base when the pitcher, in a rare play, threw the ball he was using into the dugout to get a new baseball. The umpires ruled the ball was still live and sent Brito to second on what was ruled an error.

With two down, Tre Todd drove the ball to the wall in right-center, splitting the outfielders. It was Todd's first professional double, and Brito scored easily for a 3-0 lead.

Thanks to Jose Chacin, that lead held strong. The Raptors ace walked two in the first but stranded the runners, then gave up a hit in both the second and third before a 1-2-3 fourth.

In the fifth, it appeared Chacin would work through the trouble of a one-out single, but an error was committed on a possible double play ball to put runners at second and third. A groundout put Helena on the scoreboard, but Chacin didn't let it faze him. He struck out number three hitter Chad McClanahan to strand the other runner on second.

Chacin finished six strong innings for his fifth win of the season, allowing four hits and just the one unearned run while striking out six.

After Chacin, Hunter Speer and Austin Drury put in solid relief work. Speer saw runners on the corners and one out in the seventh, but a pop out and then a snag of a ground ball by Jacob Amaya kept the Brewers from drawing closer. When Speer allowed an infield single to again put runners on the corners in the eighth, Drury entered with two out and rung up a batter looking to end the frame.

Ogden added an insurance run in the ninth, as Amaya drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on Paulson's second hit of the day, a single to right field.

Drury then set down Helena quietly in the ninth after hitting the leadoff batter.

Game three of the series is scheduled for a 7:05 start Monday night.
