Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - With five games remaining in the regular season, CF Montréal (16-9-4) will host the Columbus Crew (9-6-13) this Friday at 7:30pm at Stade Saputo (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690).
CF Montréal's 4-3 comeback win over Toronto last Sunday marked the team's 16th win of the season. The result bumped the team up to a total of 52 points, setting two season bests for both wins and points in the process. Montreal now sits alone in second place in the East, eight points behind Philadelphia.
Although CF Montréal has won seven of its last 10 matches, the Club will be looking to improve its home record after a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on August 31. Since the Club's arrival in MLS, Montreal has a 78-48-21 regular-season record at Stade Saputo.
Moreover, with a win on Friday, Wilfried Nancy's men could officially book their spot in the 2022 MLS Cup playoffs. A win would see the Montrealers climb to 55 points in the table and consolidate a 16-point gap with FC Cincinnati, who sits eighth in the conference. With 55 points to their name, mathematically, Montreal would not finish lower than sixth in the East.
In addition, as part of MLS' Kick Childhood Cancer campaign, CF Montréal will donate $1 from every ticket sold for the match to the Benjamin-Lepage Foundation in support of pediatric cancer research.
As for the visitors, this will be their first visit to Stade Saputo since a 1-0 loss on April 13, 2019. Montreal has had the upper hand on the Crew in six of their last seven encounters at Stade Saputo, managing to shut out Columbus five times.
On Saturday, Columbus played to a scoreless draw against Chicago. Despite being sixth in the conference and in a hotly contested playoff race, the Crew have just one loss in their last 16 games. The team will also be looking to avenge a 2-1 stoppage time loss to Montreal suffered on August 3 at Lower.com Field.
