Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal will begin the defence of its national crown on Wednesday night when it hosts Forge FC in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Championship at Stade Saputo (919sports.ca, TSN 690, OneSoccer). Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
Montreal will face the Hamilton club for the second time, after a 0-0 (7-8) shootout victory in last year's semifinal, on October 27. In that match, after stopping his counterpart Triston Henry from the spot, CF Montréal goalkeeper Sebastian Breza struck the winning penalty in the 11th round.
Montreal advanced to the final and went on to defeat Toronto FC 1-0 at Stade Saputo. It was the fifth Canadian Championship in the Club's history.
This will be the visitors' first visit to Stade Saputo since their inception in 2019 as a founding club of the Canadian Premier League. The Ontario team clinched its ticket to the quarterfinal round by shutting out defending PLSQ champion CS Mont-Royal Outremont 2-0 in the preliminary round on May 11 at Tim Hortons Field.
In its most recent regular season match, Bobby Smyrniotis' squad posted a 4-0 win in the Maritimes over HFX Wanderers FC on May 20.
Should Montreal continue in the tournament, all subsequent games would be played on the road, as determined by the draw held on March 9.
