
Red Bulls Face off against Charlotte FC for the First Time in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16

HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls battle Charlotte FC for the first-time ever in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 25 at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+ and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 7:30 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Stefano Fusaro will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Red Bulls won their first two Open Cup matches of the season on the road defeating Hartford Athletic, 2-1, on April 20, and D.C. United, 3-0, on May 10. New York has had five different goal scorers in Open Cup play this season, which includes Lewis Morgan, Aaron Long, Luquinhas, John Tolkin, and Zach Ryan. Charlotte FC, in their inaugural season, defeated Greenville Triumph and Richmond Kickers to advance to Round of 16 in their first-ever U.S. Open Cup appearance.
Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara has made 15 career Open Cup appearances, which is the most by a single player in franchise history. On May 10, he earned his sixth career shutout in Open Cup play, which includes four from New York's 2017 Open Cup run. Meara has posted a 9-6-0 mark in his career in the Open Cup. Meara made his first MLS regular season appearance since November 8, 2020, against Toronto FC, on Sunday, May 22.
Following Wednesday's match, New York welcomes D.C. United to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, May 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
