TORONTO, Ontario - CF Montréal advanced to the semifinals of the Canadian Championship after defeating Toronto FC 2-1 on Tuesday night at BMO Field.

Montreal struck first - four minutes apart - in the first half. Zachary Brault-Guillard (35') broke the deadlock with his first goal of the tournament on a counterattack. A Chinonso Chinonso Offor header (39') then doubled Montreal's lead off a Mathieu Choinière cross.

Toronto responded just before halftime with a goal from Lorenzo Insigne (44').

In the semifinals, the Bleu-blanc-noir will host Forge FC on May 23, 24 or 25 at Stade Saputo in a rematch of the 2021 quarterfinals.

Montreal and Toronto will meet again in less than four days' time as the Montrealers host their rivals at Stade Saputo at 7:30pm as part of MLS Rivalry Week and the Club's 30th anniversary celebrations (Apple MLS Season Pass, BPM Sports, TSN 690).

GAME NOTES

-CF Montréal has won its last five games (all competitions), outscoring the opposition 10-1.

-Defender George Campbell made his first career start with CF Montréal (all competitions).

HERNÁN LOSADA

"The final whistle was a nice moment to celebrate with my players. It was a birthday present of sorts for me and Matko [Miljevic]. It was a cup game so it was important to win. We played a very good first half but we could have scored more than two goals. We played well defensively. We controlled the game well. We knew Toronto was going to take more chances in the second half, but the block stayed focused. The players gave it their all. We are becoming more and more united and I am very happy for them."

JONATHAN SIROIS

"We feel good mentally right now. We approach every game with a good mindset and it showed in the game tonight. It was a special game to play. Growing up in Montreal, I got to experience this rivalry in the stands, but it is a lot different on the field. We knew Toronto had a lot of offensive firepower, but we did a good job of limiting their chances."
