El Paso Diablos News Release

Aaron Mirizzi's three-run homer in the seventh inning paced the Fort Worth Cats over the El Paso Diablos 5-2 on Friday night from La Grave Field.

The Diablos scored the opening run of the game in the top of the first inning. Kory Drew led off the contest with a walk, moved around the horn on two ground outs, and scored an RBI single from Walter Olmstead for the early 1-0 lead.

The Fort Worth Cats scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Kelly Gulledge singled with two outs. Gulledge advanced to second on a walk to Carlos Adolfo and was plated on Chuck Carter's RBI single.

The Diablos re-took the lead in the top of the fourth. Logan Wood hit his third home-run in three nights giving the Diablos a 2-1 advantage.

El Paso had a chance to stretch the lead in the top of the sixth off of Nick Martin. Walter Olmstead led off the frame with a single through the right side. Olmstead then moved onto second off of a wild pitch and to third on a sac bunt. However, Martin settled down with one out and retired both Juan Camacho and Casey Clary to escape the inning.

The Fort Worth Cats had an explosive bottom of the eighth. Marc Mirizzi blasted a three-run homer off of Mike Cervera giving the Cats a 4-2 lead. Dallas Strankman came in to relieve Cervera and yielded one unearned run off a throwing error as Kelly Gulledge crossed the dish giving Fort Worth a 5-2 advantage.

Aaron Marsden shut down the Diablos in the eighth and ninth frames. He gave up just two hits and struck out three picking up his third overall save of the season.

Nick Martin gets the win (1-3) as he tossed seven innings allowing two runs off of five hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Mike Cervera (0-1) picks up the loss in his first start of the year as he threw six and a third giving up four runs off of seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

The El Paso Diablos will square off with the Fort Worth Cats on Saturday night at 6:05 PM MST. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
