Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats had their three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night, as they fell to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-1 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

One night after completing a series sweep over the West Virginia Black Bears, the ValleyCats did take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Mahoning Valley, when Aaron Mizell drove home Cesar Carrasco with an RBI single.

Unfortunately, the 'Cats lead did not last long, as the visiting Scrappers scored four times in the top of the fifth, then added runs in the sixth and eighth innings, en route to winning the first game of this three-game set.

Mizell led the way offensively for Tri-City, finishing 1-for-3 with a stolen base, to go along with his RBI. Carrasco also had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, while Pat Porter extended his hit streak to 10 games with a single off of the first base bag in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The ValleyCats will look to get back on the winning path on Saturday, in game two of the series against the Scrappers. The contest, which will begin with a 7 p.m., first pitch, will feature a pitching matchup between Tri-City LHP Zac Person (1-2, 5.00), and Mahoning Valley RHP (2-1, 2.28).
