Cats rally past Captains 5-2

Ryan Patterson was 3-for-4 with a go-ahead home run and two runs batted in as the Cats defeated Shreveport-Bossier 5-2 on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

The win moved the Cats into a second-place tie, three games behind Pensacola in the South.

Jorge Alvarez gave the Captains a 2-0 lead in the first inning as he belted a two-run double off the left-field wall.

The Cats narrowed the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning as Michael Bell singled, advance to third on an error and came into score on a wild pitch.

The Cats would take the lead in the sixth as with two outs, Bell singled and Ryan Patterson smacked a two-run homer to left to give Fort Worth a 3-2 advantage. The Cats added a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Cameron Blair and a run in the eighth as Patterson scored on a wild pitch.

Bell and Pat O'Sullivan each had two hits in the game in addition to Patterson's three-hit performance.

Cats' starter Jae Jung earned the win as he went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Richard Salazar, making his second start for the Captains, permitted four runs, three earned on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings as he dropped to 4-1 with the loss.

Gary Lee and Ryan Trytten each threw a scoreless inning in relief before Scott Vander Weg closed the game out in the ninth for his fifth save.

The final game of the series is on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Lee Gwaltney will be on the mound for the Cats.
