Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Moncton Wildcats beat the Halifax Mooseheads 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the Halifax Metro Centre to keep pace with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the top of the Maritimes Division. The Cats got goals from five different players in the victory with Daniel Pettersson, Marek Hrivik, Simon Jodoin, Brandon Gormley and Cedric LeBlanc all finding the back of the net. Gerrad Grant got the loan Mooseheads goal. Shane Owen was solid once again in the Wildcats net stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced. Halifax goalie Anthony Terenzio stopped 21 shots in the loss.
Halifax generate more of the shots in the first period out shooting the Cats 13-6 in the period but it was Moncton who were able to get the loan goal. Daniel Pettersson got sprung in on a breakaway, and made a nice move to beat Terenzio for his 9th goal of the season.
The Wildcats continued to increase their lead during the second period and found themselves with a three goal lead midway through the frame. Hrivik got his 7th of the season on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle at 4:57. Jodoin scored on the powerplay at 10:51 to put the Cats up 3-0. Grant got one back for the Mooseheads when he was able to bang a rebound into the open net at 16:43 to cut the lead to 3-1. Shots in the 2nd period were even at 11.
Gormley scored the Wildcats' 2nd powerplay goal of the game 5:42 into the 3rd period to give Moncton a 4-1 lead. LeBlanc rounded out the scoring at 12:43 to give the Wildcats a 5-1 lead. Shots in the period were 13-9 in favor of the Mooseheads.
Halifax out shot Moncton 32-26 for the game and were 0 for 4 on the powerplay. Moncton went 2 for 8 on the powerplay.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday October 15th when they welcome the Victoriaville Tigres to the Moncton Coliseum. Note the game time is at 7:30. Make sure to wear your pink as the Wildcats will be kicking off their annual Pink in the Rink weekend.
