Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced today that free agent goaltender Jacob De Serres, formerly of the Brandon Wheat Kings, has joined the club effective immediately.
De Serres, 20, appeared in 127 career WHL games with Brandon and Seattle, amassing a 66-47-1-4 record to go along with a 2.85 G.A.A. and .902 SV%. Originally from Calgary, AB, De Serres was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in Round Three (84th Overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft after winning 20 games for the Thunderbirds in 2007-08 while registering a G.A.A. of 2.28 and a SV% of .922 (tied with Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Dustin Tokarski for best in the league).
At the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament in Manitoba, De Serres backstopped Brandon to an appearance in the Championship Game after making 25 saves in the Wheat Kings' thrilling 5-4 overtime win over the Calgary Hitmen in the semi-finals. The 6'2", 180 lb. net minder also earned a 4-0 shutout win over the Moncton Wildcats in the round robin portion of the tournament.
Currently (7-2-0-1) on the season, Saint John will face the Rimouski Oceanic on Tuesday night (puck drop: 7pm) at Harbour Station (www.harbourstation.ca). Designated 'Toonie Tuesday', special $2 youth tickets are available for this match with the purchase of an adult seat.
