Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Adam Davis and Lonnie Chisenhall each belted grand slams in the bottom of the sixth in Kinston's 15-3 rout of Lynchburg at Grainger Stadium Tuesday night. The K-Tribe's victory snapped the Hillcats four-game winning streak. Lynchburg and Kinston will meet in the rubber match of the three-game series Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Cats grabbed the early lead with a run in the top of the second. Matt Hague drew a leadoff walk from Kinston's Bryan Price, who made his first start with the K-Tribe after being acquired by the Cleveland Indians in the trade that sent Victor Martinez to Boston Friday. After Price retired the next two Lynchburg batters, Hague advanced to second on a single from Alex Presley. Eric Fryer reached on an error by Kinston third baseman Adam Davis, which enabled Hague to score and gave Lynchburg a 1-0 edge.

Lynchburg held the lead until the bottom of the sixth. Cats starter Jeff Locke allowed a leadoff double to Tim Fedroff before being replaced by reliever Mike Colla. Lonnie Chisenhall singled off Colla, giving Kinston runners at the corners with no outs. Ole Sheldon drew a walk to load the bases for Cord Phelps, who reached on an infield single that plated Fedroff. Ron Rivas followed with an RBI single that scored Chisenhall from third and Davis cleared the bases with a grand slam that put Kinston in front 6-2. Roman Pena followed with a single that chased Colla from the contest.

Paul Mildren entered the game and promptly gave up a single to Richard Martinez and plunked Lucas Montero to load the bases. Fedroff drove in Pena with an RBI single and Chisenhall followed with a grand slam - Kinston's second slam of the inning. The K-Tribe tacked on an additional run in the frame when Davis delivered an RBI double that gave Kinston a commanding 12-1 advantage.

The Cats scored a run in the top of the seventh off Kinston reliever Chen Lee. Presley ripped a leadoff double and took third on a wild pitch. Jose De Los Santos drove in Presley with an RBI groundout that cut the deficit to 12-2.

Kinston added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to seal the victory. Lynchburg scored a run in the ninth when Fryer's RBI single plated Jared Keel to make it a 15-3 game.

Price (1-0) picked up the win in his Kinston debut. Colla (5-2), who allowed five hits and six earned runs and did not retire a batter, took the loss. Lynchburg's bullpen allowed 14 hits and 14 runs, 13 of which were earned, one night after surrendering just two hits and no runs. Locke allowed five hits and one earned run in five innings of work.

Lynchburg will try to bounce back with a win in the rubber match of the three-game set on Wednesday at Grainger Stadium. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
