Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA- Catfish Management have been forced to quell another rumor about the team's supposed departure, this one to Western Tennessee. A report in a South Carolina newspaper has the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx looking to relocate to Columbia, SC. The report goes on to say that if that were to happen, the Catfish might move to Jackson, TN.

"The Catfish will not be moving to Jackson," said team owner David Heller. "Not today, not tomorrow. Not ever. There is no truth to this rumor whatsoever."

Columbus General Manager, Jim Beaudoin, once again expressed his frustration with various unfounded rumors that somehow seem to make their way into the newspaper. "I sincerely hope this is the last ridiculous rumor that I have to shoot down. Our staff has worked very hard to provide a great product for the Columbus community. We have been very pro-active in our outreach efforts and have tried to bring new and exciting promotions to Golden Park. As a result, we have significantly increased our attendance and the response from our community is getting better each day. We are looking forward to further increasing attendance and having even more great promotions during the 2006 season."

Beaudoin also referred to a new three-year lease that the Catfish are close to signing with the City of Columbus. The report noted that while the new lease has been agreed to verbally, it has yet to be signed.

"There are a few minor details that we are very close to working out, and our attorney has been on vacation. But we just gave the document to the City, and we are waiting to hear back from them. We hope to have the lease signed before the end of the month. At that time, I sincerely hope that we will stop being associated with rumors of relocation. As a league, we already have a schedule for the 2006 season and it has us in Columbus where we belong - and where we will be."

The 2006 Columbus Catfish Home Schedule will be available for release on August 26th. The Catfish continue the current home-stand tonight at 7:00pm versus the Savannah Sand Gnats (Washington Nationals). Ticket can be purchased by calling the box office at 571-8866.
