Catenacci Scores Twice in Rangers 4-1 Victory

Michael Catenacci scored twice and added an assist as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-1 on Monday night. The Rangers take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Cody Sol and Zach Lorentz scored their first career postseason goals in the win.

Rangers' captain Catenacci snapped a scoreless tie with under two minutes remaining in the first period. With Owen Sound's Devon Rymarchuk in the penalty box for boarding, Kitchener took just four seconds to capitalize with the extra man. Catenacci fired a shot over Attack netminder Jordan Binnington, his first goal of the postseason. Cody Sol and Andrew Crescenzi were credited with the assists.

Rangers led shots on goal 12-11 after the opening period of play.

The trio of Rangers veterans connected again early in the second frame. Kitchener started the period on the power play and just 66 seconds in, Catenacci found Sol in front and he snapped a quick shot by Binnington. Crescenzi also picked up a helper on the overage defenseman's first career postseason goal.

Kitchener jumped out to a three-goal lead midway through the frame. Tobias Rieder threw a shot at the net and Catenacci was quick to pounce on the rebound, chipping a backhand shot over Binnington to tally his second of the night. Rearguard Ben Fanelli assisted on the goal, picking up his third point in three games. The goal was Catenacci's eighth point of the playoffs, tying the overager's career high set in the 2010 postseson.

The Attack ended John Gibson's shutout bid with less than five minutes remaining in the second. Chris Bigras beat the Rangers netminder glove-side to record his first of the playoffs Assists were credited to Gemel Smith and Jake Dotchin.

Owen Sound out-shot Kitchener 14-10 in the period.

Zach Lorentz's first career playoff goal restored the Rangers three-goal advantage in the third period. The sophomore forward was assisted by Radek Faksa and Eric Ming, who recorded the first point of his postseason career.

The Attack hammered the Rangers net in the third, out-shooting Kitchener 19-9 but were unable to solve Gibson. Owen Sound finished the game with a 44-31 advantage in shots on goal.
