
Spirit Lose Game Three in OT 6-5

On Monday night, the Saginaw Spirit lost in overtime to the Sarnia Sting in the third game of their first round playoff series by a score of 6 to 5. The Spirit trailed after the first period 2 to 1, then 3 to 1 early in the second. The Spirit battled back taking a one goal lead in the second period with Sarnia answering with a goal of their own to tie the game at 4. Saginaw and Sarnia each scored a goal in the third to send the game to overtime tied at 5 apiece. In overtime the Sting's Ludvig Rensfeldt scored the game winning goal, his second of the game, to give Sarnia their second straight overtime victory.
Sarnia got off to a quick start, scoring at the 1:04 mark on a goal by Alex Galchenyuk (assists to Spooner & Thompson). Sarnia then extended their lead to 2 - 0 with Ludvig Rensfeldt's first goal (assisted by Sarault & Alberga) at 15:39. Saginaw's Garret Ross answered back with an unassisted goal at 16:01 to make the score 2 to 1. Saginaw was outshot 8 to 10 in the period.
In the second period Sarnia's Conner Murphy scored on a power play, (3:56) with assists to Galchenyuk & Yakopov, to give Sarnia a 3 to 1 lead. Saginaw fought back with a Brandon Saad power play goal at the 6:35, assisted by Vincent Trocheck. Steven Strong then tied the game at 3 to 3 two minutes later with an unassisted goal. The Spirit went ahead 4 to 3 on a goal by Vincent Trocheck (assisted by Dalton Young) at the 11:44 mark. That lead would not hold up as Sarnia's Craig Hottot answered back to tie the game at 4 apiece (13:44) heading into the third period. The Spirit outshot the Sting 15 to 8 in the period.
Saginaw's Eric Locke scored 6 seconds into the third period, assisted by Amestoy and Walch to take a one goal lead. Again, the lead would not hold up, with a Sarnia goal by Reid Boucher (10:51), assisted by Sarault & Basso, to tie the game. Sarnia had 8 shots to 6 for the Spirit in the third.
Sarnia's Ludvig Rensfeldt scored the game winner in overtime to give Sarnia a 2 games to 1 lead in the best of seven series. The Spirit outshot Sarnia 33 to 30. Jake Paterson made 24 saves in net for the Spirit
