Altoona Curve News Release

READING, PA- Reading Phillies' left-hander Fabio Castro opened the game with 6 1/3 no-hit innings and finished with seven scoreless innings and nine strikeouts to lead the R-Phils to a 5-2 win over the Altoona Curve Saturday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. With the victory, Reading (5-4) evens the three-game weekend series at a game apiece after Altoona (3-6) took Friday's series lidlifter, 8-4.

By the time Jason Delaney recorded the Curve's first hit against Castro with one out in the top of the seventh, the R-Phils already had built a comfortable 5-0 advantage. Reading tagged Altoona starter Yoslan Herrera (0-1) for five runs between the third and fourth innings, including a four-run fourth. In that inning, catcher John Suomi provided the big hit with a long three-run homer to right field to make the score 5-0.

Trailing 5-0 in the top of the eighth, Altoona mounted a comeback attempt against reliever Ron Hill, who took over after Castro left the game. The Curve loaded the bases with no outs and scored their first run when Jason Bowers was hit on the helmet by a pitch. Bowers, who was credited with an RBI, was helped up by field staff and was able to leave the game under his own power. The next batter, Jonel Pacheco, drew Altoona to within 5-2 with an RBI single which scored Brian Finegan. However, reliever Jason Anderson put out the threat for Reading, getting Brad Corley to strikeout and Delaney to bounce into an inning-ending double play.

Reading closer Patrick Overholt kept the Curve off the board in the top of the ninth to seal the victory for the Phils.

Altoona was limited to only four hits in the contest, including one each from Delaney, Pacheco, Milver Reyes and Melvin Dorta.

The Curve and Phillies will play the deciding game of their three-game series Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch. Left-hander Kyle Bloom (0-2, 11.88) will make his third start of the season against Reading righty and Philadelphia Phillies' top prospect Carlos Carrasco (0-0, 1.80). Radio airtime is set for 12:50 on flagship station Real Oldies 93.5 FM and the Curve Radio Network.
