Connecticut Defenders News Release

Manchester, NH- After a teeter-tottering set of middle innings, Simon Klink delivered in the top of the ninth to give game three to the Connecticut Defenders, 4-3.

After a tumultuous first start, Joey Martinez was determined to have a favorable second outing. He proceeded to throw four scoreless innings and induced numerous groundballs as he appeared to be in complete control on the mound.

His counterpart Ricky Romero was equally as good in the early goings as he countered by tossing four scoreless of his own until Eddy Martinez-Esteve touched him up with a solo home run to left field to give the Defenders a 1-0 advantage.

The Fisher Cats scratched back in the home half of the fifth as Anthony Hatch drove in a run on a single to tie the game up at 1-1.

Connecticut was determined to re-claim the lead and it didn't take them long as Travis Ishikawa delivered an RBI groundout to score Antoan Richardson from first as the Defenders inched ahead, 2-1.

The totter for the Cats came right away in the sixth as Brian Jeroloman skied a sacrifice fly into left field to bring home Scott Campbell as the game was tied yet again, 2-2.

An uneventful seventh and top of the eighth led into the bottom of the eighth as Scott Campbell clobbered a homer to give the home team a 3-2 lead.

The Defenders were persistent, though. The top of the ninth brought up the heart of the order and Travis Denker laced a single up the middle to get the rally going. Trey Webb pinch ran as Ishikawa flew out to center. Adam Witter drew a one-out walk as Dayton Buller was asked to pinch run for the slugger. Carlos Sosa struck out to put Simon Klink at the plate with two on and two down. Klink delivered as he ripped a double into the alley to score both runners as Connecticut grabbed the lead, 4-3.

Sergio Romo came in to pitch the ninth and had no trouble with 7-8-9 in New Hampshire's lineup as he earned his fourth save of the season in a 4-3 win. Ronnie Ray got the win, Daryl Harang was credited with the loss and the Defenders improved to 6-3 on the season.
