Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers have begun to swing the bats, especially in the latter innings.
Keith Castillo capped a four-run eighth with a game tying three-run homer, and Yusuke Kajimoto singled home the game winner in the tenth as the Barnstormers topped the York Revolution, 7-6, Monday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The win, Lancaster's third straight, cut York's lead in the 2015 War of the Roses to 8-7 and moved Lancaster to within 2 1/2 games of second place Sugar Land in the Freedom Division.
Down, 6-2, entering the bottom of the eighth, the Barnstormers got a leadoff single from Kevin Rivers, the third of his four hits on the night. Luke Hughes picked up a one-out walk, and the runners moved ahead on Wilson Batista's right side grounder. Brandon Jones drilled Stephen Penney with a liner back to the box that deflected toward third base for an RBI single. Castillo followed with his clout to deep right center, leveling the game at 6-6.
Each team left two runners on base in the ninth, and Kyle Simon (2-0) retired the side in order in the top of the 10th, getting his team back to the plate.
Josh Judy (2-1) retired Jones and Castillo on his first two pitches. Anderson Feliz stubbornly worked out a walk and stole second on a second strike to Kajimoto. The Lancaster second baseman got a pitch inside and low, then took Judy down the left field line for his winning hit as the Barnstormers won their fourth straight extra inning game.
Feliz gave Lancaster a 2-0 lead in the second with a two-run double to left center off Rommie Lewis. Shannon Wilkerson tied the game in the fifth with a two-out, two-run single to right, knocking in a pair of unearned runs off Joe Gardner. Nick Ferdinand broke the tie with an opposite field homer in the sixth, and Yeicok Calderon launched a three-run blast later in the inning for the 6-2 York advantage.
The Barnstormers entertain the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday evening. Shunsuke Watanabe (3-2) makes the start for Lancaster against right-hander Randy Boone (3-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
