Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their seventh-straight game on Monday night, falling to the Somerset Patriots, 3-2, at T.D. Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J. The loss caps a seven-game road trip for the Skeeters who return to Constellation Field tomorrow evening for a 7:05 game with Long Island.
Somerset struck for an early run on Skeeters' starter, Sean Gallagher in the bottom of the first. Thomas Neal reached on a two-out single back to the pitcher and came around to score on a double from Michael Burgess to break the scoring seal.
Sugar Land put something together offensively in the top of the fourth, thanks in part to a pair of free passes from Somerset's Lucas Irvine. Kevin Russo and Delwyn Young each drew walks, sandwiched around a Travis Scott strikeout. With two outs and a full-count offering, Johan Limonta belted a two RBI double to left field to stake the Skeeters to a 2-1 lead.
The Patriots would reclaim the lead, however, in the bottom of the sixth. Scott Cousins singled to center to kick off the inning before Aharon Eggleston doubled to drive him in from first and tie the ballgame. Eggleston advanced to third on the throw to the plate and came in to score on a wild pitch from Gallagher, giving Somerset a 3-2 lead.
The Skeeters mounted just one hit over the final three innings of play, allowing the Patriots to hold on for the victory, 3-2.
