Ducks Sweep Bluefish For Tenth Consecutive Victory

(Central Islip, NY - June 22, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-36) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (39-17) 4-1 at Bethpage Ballpark on Monday night to complete a sweep of the four-game wraparound series. Long Island registered their 13th consecutive victory at home, setting a new franchise record.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher D.J. Mitchell (3-4) was tagged with the loss, tossing seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, walking two, striking out two, and allowing one home run. Long Island Starting Pitcher Andrew Barbosa (4-0) earned the victory, pitching seven innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking two and striking out seven. Ryan Kussmaul pitched a scoreless ninth inning, earning his league-leading 17th save.

Long Island got on the board in the bottom half of the first inning on a solo home run by Lew Ford off Mitchell to make it 1-0 in favor of the home team. It was Ford's 46th RBI of the season, tops in the Atlantic League. The Ducks added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the third off Mitchell, all happening with two out and nobody on base. Jose Morales belted a two-run double off the wall in right field, scoring Randy Ruiz and Cody Puckett to make it 3-0 in favor of the Flock. Morales came in to score on an RBI double by Reegie Corona, giving Long Island the 4-0 edge.

Bridgeport scored their lone run of the night in the sixth inning off Barbosa on an RBI single by infielder Luis Rodriguez, plating Matt Wessinger who led off the frame with a walk. The 'Fish offense was held in check, as they were limited to just three hits in the loss, marking the 13th time this season that they have had five hits or fewer in a game. Rodirguez led the way for Bridgeport with two hits, extending his on-base streak to seven straight games.

The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, June 23rd, when they host the Camden Riversharks to begin a brief three-game homestand in the Park City. Fans in attendance will receive a Magic City Collector's pin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
