Casey Kurtz Named FSL Scholarship Winner

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees, in association with the Florida State League and the Florida Marlins, are honored to announce Casey Kurtz as Brevard County's 2011 scholarship award winner. The Florida State League Scholarship committee presented 12 receipents, representing the 12 team in the FSL, with $1,000 educational scholarships.

Casey is from Oviedo, Fla. and is a graduate of Hagerty High School. She is currently a junior at Florida State University and is pursuing a degree in Sport Management. Casey interned with the Manatees during the 2011 season.

She will be honored along with the 11 other recipients in a pre-game ceremony at the Florida Marlins game on Sunday, August 14 at 1:10 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium.

The Florida Marlins/Florida State League scholarship program is awarded to students that are an employee of, or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club and must be at least a high school junior by the 2011 Fall Term. The Florida Marlins have sponsored this program for twelve (12) years and have contributed a total of $112,500.

Florida State League President Chuck Murphy stated "This program is one of the best things we do in the League and I congratulate the Directors and General Managers on their dedication and enthusiasm in administering this program." The purpose of the program is to send a message that an education is a key to success in life.
