PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Charlotte Stone Crabs were unable to get the bats going in a 6-0 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday at Charlotte Sports Park.

Palm Beach got yet another strong starting pitching performance. Richard Castillo tossed six scoreless innings to record the win, as the Cardinals offense mustered the necessary support to back him up.

Castillo (2-3) was making just his fifth start since coming down from Double-A Springfield, but has certainly found his groove back in the Florida State League. The righty worked six blank frames for the second consecutive start, allowing just three hits and a three walks while fanning six men.

All the offense Castillo would need was provided by left fielder Kyle Conley. Hitless in the series, Conley roped a pair of run-scoring doubles to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. He drove home a pair with a third inning two-bagger and another with a double in the fourth.

Charlotte starter Alex Koronis got off to a bit of a rough start. Just two pitches into his outing, Koronis hit Starlin Rodriguez in the helmet with a pitch. Rodriguez was forced to leave the game and is listed as day-to-day.

Koronis (7-6) allowed the three runs on the Conley doubles, lasting four innings and surrendering four hits. He walked three batters, hit three batters and committed a pair of balks in the outing.

Palm Beach added insurance with Robert Stock's seventh inning suicide squeeze for the first of three late runs. Domnit Bolivar provide two more with a run-scoring single that was misplayed by Anthony Scelfo and allowed a second run to come around.

For the second consecutive night, the Stone Crabs could not string the hits together. Charlotte managed six hits one the evening, just one day after collecting only five hits in Thursday's win.

Tyler Bortnick finished with a 1 for 3 night and also drew a walk. No other Charlotte hitter found his way on base more than once.

The loss for the Stone Crabs along with the sixth consecutive victory for the Bradenton Marauders pushed second place Charlotte back a game in the standings. Bradenton holds a two game lead in the FSL South Division second half pennant race.

The Stone Crabs travel to Port St. Lucie on Saturday to begin a three-game series against the St. Lucie Mets. Right-hander Jake Thompson (3-5) draws the start in the opener. The Mets will counter with righty Scott Moviel (5-9). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
