New Jersey Jackals News Release
Pittsfield, MA - Kyle Zaleski held the Jackals hitless through six innings and designated hitter Daniel Carte delivered a two-run home run to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Pittsfield Colonials defeated the New Jersey Jackals 4-2 on a steamy Monday afternoon at Wahconah Park.
After Pittsfield second baseman Danny Bomback led off the eighth inning with a single, Carte laced his second homer of the series into the trees beyond the left field wall to give the Colonials a 3-1 lead. Left fielder Rafael Cabreja followed with a double and later scored on a throwing error by Jackals reliever Mike Pontius.
After Pittsfield used back-to-back first inning doubles by shortstop Matt Nandin and second baseman Danny Bomback, the Jackals tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second when Mike DeJesus drew a two-out walk, stole second, and later scored on a wild pitch. That score held until the eighth.
New Jersey threatened in the top of the ninth when second baseman Abraham Nunez and designated hitter Shawn Riggans began the frame with back-to-back singles to chase Zaleski from the game. Left fielder Jacob Butler then hit into a double play to force Nunez home and cut the deficit to 4-2, but Colonials reliever Reymond Cruz escaped the jam to notch his second save of the season.
Wideman, who threw 48 of his 65 pitches for strikes, allowed one run on six hits over five innings with one walk and two strikeouts but did not factor in the decision. New Jersey's Edward Rodriguez contributed two scoreless innings of relief, while Pontius took the loss.
Zaleski won for the fourth time in five decisions after surrendering just two runs, one earned, on three hits in eight innings. A leadoff single by Butler in the top of the seventh inning broke up Zaleski's no-hit bid.
The Jackals and Colonials conclude their four-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends right-hander Dan Griffin (2-1, 6.69) to the mound against Pittsfield righty Miguel Flores (2-3, 4.28). Cody Chrusciel has the live call on the Jackals webcast beginning 10 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.

Jackal Bites: Third baseman Jovan Rosa was ejected with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning for arguing a call at third base on a stolen base by Pittsfield's Jerod Edmondson... Carte's homer extended his league-best hitting streak to 25 games... The Jackals were outhit 12-3 in the contest.
