Carpen Collects 5 Hits; Gidora Makes Pro Debut

HARLINGEN, Texas- Starting left fielder Albert Carpen recorded five hits as solid hitting led the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (7-6) over the Alexandria Aces (6-7) 11-3. Harlingen native Danny Gidora made his 2013 professional debut Thursday night at Harlingen Field.

Starting pitcher A.J Smouse (2-0) pitched seven strong innings only surrendering three runs on five hits.

RGV's Albert Carpen led off the first inning with a bunt that hugged the third base line this was one of five hits that Carpen collected on the night.

WhiteWings first basemen Danny Pembroke led off the bottom of the third inning with a double into the left center field gap. Michael Garcia followed with an RBI double scoring Pembroke from second extending RGV's lead to 6-0.

AJ Smouse continued his solid night on the mound collecting four one, two, three innings.

Johnny Bowden collected three hits on the night going 3-for-4 scoring two runs. Bowden was a part of a four run fifth inning that sealed a game one victory versus the Aces, with the win this brings RGV over the .500 mark (7-6) for the first time this season.

RGV sends Bobby O'Neill to the mound to face lefty Jon Jones in Game two of the four game series. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
