Alexandria Aces News Release
The Alexandria Aces have released outfielder Phil Rowland and have signed utility player Brandon Spencer.
Rowland came to the Aces from the Texas Winter League, where he hit .333 and led the league in runs. He also played in eight Pecos League games last year, batting .385.
But he struggled to find playing time with the Aces and was just 0 for 3 in 2013.
Spencer is a native of Shreveport who impressed Aces manager Von Hayes at tryout camp with his throwing release as a catcher. He can play every position and adds a left handed bat to the Aces roster.
As a freshman at Bossier Parish Community College, Spencer hit .358 as a freshman and .307 as a sophomore last year.
He played high school baseball for Evangel Christian Academy.
The Aces (6-6) travel to Rio Grande Valley today for a four game series with the WhiteWings. They will be without outfielder. Austin Newell, who was placed on the inactive list with an eye ulcer. The Aces will add another player in Harlingen for the series.
The Aces return home on Monday, June 10 for a four game series with the Fort Worth Cats.
