Carolina Mudcats News Release

Pearl, MS --- Chris McMurray scored from third on a wild pitch to give Carolina a 4-3 victory in 10 innings at Mississippi on Saturday night.

McMurray, whose two-run homer in the second inning appeared to be enough for the victory until the Mudcats gave up three in the ninth, reached on an infield single to begin the 10th. After a sacrifice, McMurray took third on a single to left by Felix Perez, then scored when Benino Pruneda's pitch deflected off of the glove of his catcher to put Carolina ahead 4-3.

Lee Tabor (S, 1) then notched his third career save, pitching around a leadoff double in the 10th to seal the victory.

Denis Phipps homered in the ninth to put Carolina ahead 3-0, but then the Braves scored three times against closer Donnie Joseph. The rally started strangely enough, when the wind blew back a foul pop back over the first base line, and a confused Carlos Mendez could not get back to catch it. After the wind-aided single, Joseph walked the next two before Shawn McGill drove a two-run double inside the first base bag to pull the Braves to within 3-2. A grounder tied the game, with the winning run moving to third base. However, pinch-hitter Willie Cabrera grounded to third as McGill attempted to score to win the game, however McMurray tagged out McGill to keep the game tied. Antoan Richardson flew to center to end the inning.

Tom Cochran, making his first start since August 16th, pitched six scoreless innings on two hits. Cochran had been on the disabled list with a left finger sprain.

McMurray hit his first Double-A homer against Jacob Thompson on a 1-1 pitch with Carlos Mendez aboard.

Carolina had 13 hits in the game, but fanned 12 times.

Jordan Hotchkiss (0-0, 5.40) starts Sunday at 6:05 PM ET against Randall Delgado (1-5, 5.81).
