
Matt Lawson records three-hit game in Jaxx loss Saturday

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Diamond Jaxx (28-34) lost their third straight game to Montgomery (30-32) on Saturday night in front of 5,768 fans, 6-3. On a soggy night at Riverwalk Stadium, the Jaxx were shutout through eight innings, but had the tying run at the plate in the ninth. The Jaxx could not complete the comeback and their magic number remains at six. The lead in the overall (wildcard) race over Huntsville dropped to 3 ½ games. Huntsville and Mobile's double-header was rained out on Saturday night.
The game was delayed in the top of the fourth inning for 30 minutes due to rain.
Matt Lawson was 3-for-4, with a run scored on Saturday night to lead the Jaxx at the plate. Lawson provided the teams only multi-hit performance. Alex Liddi tallied his 36th double of the season and drove in two runs in the ninth. Johan Limonta reached base three times and was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jose Ruiz is now 9-for-13 in the series, for Montgomery after hitting a homerun and driving in three runs, finishing 2-for-4.
Both starters went six innings on Saturday night, but it was Luis Munoz (6-6) that suffered the loss. Munoz gave up just two runs on four hits for the Jaxx and struck out five. Jeremy Hall (6-8) tossed six scoreless frames for Montgomery getting the win. Hall struck out three and walked two. Heath Rollins saved his second game by recording the final out in the ninth.
Montgomery jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning on Saturday night. Jose Ruiz hit a 2-run homerun, his first at the Double-A level this season to get the Biscuits on the board.
Montgomery took advantage of a Jaxx error and RBI's from Jose Ruiz, Henry Wrigley, and Matt Fields in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Biscuits scored four runs in the inning and extended their lead to 6-0.
With two outs in the ninth, the Jaxx made a valiant effort to come back. Matt Lawson singled and Nate Tenbrink walked in front of Alex Liddi, who doubled them both in. The RBI's from Liddi gives him 86 on the season. Johan Limonta singled in Liddi to cut the deficit to 6-3. The Biscuits brought in Heath Rollins to retire Carlos Peguero to end the game.
The Biscuits will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at RIverwalk Stadium, with the first pitch at 2:05. RHP Steve Bray (7-10, 4.78) makes the start for the D-Jaxx against LHP Alex Torres (10-6, 3.44) for Montgomery.The game can be heard on Jackson's NewsTalk 101.5 FM or online at diamondjaxx.com
The Diamond Jaxx will return to Pringles Park on Tuesday, August 31 for the final home stand of the season. The Jaxx will host the Mississippi Braves for three games and Chattanooga for four.
