Carmichael Shines in 2-1 Ice Pilots Win

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots defeated the Bakersfield Condors for the second night in a row with a 2-1 win on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center to win their third game in a row.

Goalie Matt Carmichael stopped 47 out of 48 shots to help give the Ice Pilots the 2-1 win. Carmichael played in the game with both Todd Ford and Frederic Cloutier recalled to the American Hockey League. Carmichael drove seven hours from Huntsville as the game was delayed an hour for his arrival.

Bakersfield came out of the gate strong in the first period outshooting the Ice Pilots 23-7 in the first period. Adam Courchaine of the Ice Pilots would scored the first goal of the game at the 10:01 mark of the second period using a defenseman to screen a wrist shot that went by Bakersfield goaly Ryan Cyr.

Bakersfield would tie the game on an unassisted goal by Mike Hofstrand 9 seconds into the third period. Brendan Cook would score the game winning goal for the Ice Pilots with 8:57 left in the third period to give the Ice Pilots a 2-1 lead.

The Ice Pilots had 43 shots on goal, 14 penalty minutes and went 0-7 on the power play. Bakersfield had 48 shots on goal, 12 penalty minutes and went 0-5 on the power play. Matt Carmichael was the winning goalie and Ryan Cyr took the loss in goal for Bakersfield.

The Ice Pilots improved their record to 8-8-2 for 18 points while Bakersfield dropped their record to 6-7-4 for 16 points. The two teams will play one another again on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. at the Pensacola Civic Center. A Teddy Bear Toss will take place when the Ice Pilots score their first goal of the game. Fans are asked to bring stuffed animal Teddy Bears to the game. When the Ice Pilots score their first goal of the game, throw the Teddy Bears onto the ice as they will be distributed to local charities in the Pensacola community.
