BOWIE, MD. - Behind a career-high eight strikeouts for Brandon Waddell, the Altoona Curve blanked the Bowie Baysox, 4-0, on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium.
The Curve (41-31) held the Baysox (31-42) to just four hits in the game to pick up their sixth straight win and move a season-best ten games over .500.
Waddell (Win, 5-2) allowed just three hits and one walk over his seven scoreless innings.
Kevin Newman led off the first inning with a double and later came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Edwin Espinal.
In the sixth, Eric Wood hammered a solo home run off of Bowie starter Jayson Aquino (Loss, 3-7), his team-leading eighth of the year, to double the Curve lead to 2-0.
Reese McGuire singled in a run in the eighth and later came in to score on an RBI single by Stetson Allie to extend the lead to 4-0.
Edgar Santana started a 1-6-3 double play to end the game, closing out his two scoreless innings in the game.
The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Altoona pitching staff and the first since June 1 at Akron.
The Curve and Baysox continue the series on Saturday night. Altoona right-hander Tyler Eppler (5-4, 3.83) will be on the mound, opposed by Bowie right-hander Jason Garcia (3-6, 3.66). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium.
