Summary
Luigi Rodriguez and Bradley Zimmer each drove in two runs during a five-run second inning that propelled the Akron RubberDucks to a 5-2 win over the Trenton Thunder in game one of a four-game set Friday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks took the lead with a five-run second inning against Trenton starter Dan Camarena (5-1). The rally started after Nellie Rodriguez reached on an error, Joe Sever hit a single to left and Mike Papi walked to load the bases. Luigi Rodriguez followed with a two-run single to left. One out later, Todd Hankins lifted an RBI single to center to make it 3-0. Bradley Zimmer then capped the scoring with a two-run double to left to extend the lead to 5-0.
Winging It
Rob Kaminsky (2-4) worked five innings, allowing two runs, on six hits. He struck out two and walked two. The lefty allowed his only two runs in the third on a home run by Kyle Higashioka, but suffered no damage otherwise. It was Kaminsky's first win since his first start of the season on April 11th. Robbie Aviles held down the fort in the mid-innings. He worked three scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out and walking one. J.P. Feyereisen entered the game in the ninth, and worked around a hit and a walk to close the game and earn his fifth save.
Duck Tales
Zimmer had a big night both at bat and in right field. He was 1-4 with his two-run double in the second. He threw out Miguel Andujar at third base with a perfect, one-bounce throw in the eighth inning, and made a spectacular catch in the right-field corner in the ninth.
